About Us
Allison Walker (nee Pfeifer) and her husband Will moved to Mansfield in the North East of Victoria in May 2006 on the basis of a work opportunity. This was to be a 2 year "trial" shift out of Melbourne whilst their family of two girls were still young. After living in the area for 12 months (and experiencing all facets of the weather including the Christmas 2006 bushfires), they decided to buy some land and make the move more permanent.
Whilst looking at different options for building a house it became very apparent that if they didn't take different environmental and energy options into consideration then they would be doing themselves a great disservice. There was also the fantastic opportunity of building a house from scratch that would allow them to incorporate energy and water savings into the structure from the very beginning. Whilst doing research for the house project, Allison saw an opportunity to bring together a range of businesses that support sustainability and environmental processes. And so became the "A Sustainable World" Expo 2008.
Having already successfully organised the "High Country Health and Wellness" Expo in 2007, the "A Sustainable World" Expo 2008 was the next step. Expo 2009 saw the merger of the two expos - on the same day at the same location. With 350 visitors through the door on 2nd May 2009, a new identity has since been created and plans are well underway for the Mansfield Sustainable Living Festival on 1st May 2010 at the Mansfield Showgrounds.
With a background in health and wellbeing, Allison's interests lie in creating a healthy lifestyle for herself and her family. Will works in the health, safety and environment field and is currently involved in implementing both health and safety and environmental management systems within his workplace.
