Sunday 3rd May 2009 was a great day with a tour of four Sustainable houses in and around Mansfield. There were two fully booked tours of interested people and everyone came away with something new. Details of the houses visited are below. This is just an example of what you will see on the next tour. If you would like to be kept up to date for future tours, please fill in your details on the newsletter page.
3rd May 2009
House 1
Rammed earth, passive solar design, Biolytix waste system, hydronic slab heating, insulation ++ and more! This house was finished in 2007 and is architect designed and locally built. With many things still on the go there is lots to see.
House 2
Always wondered about the little pigs and their house built of straw? This is a straw bale house completed in late 2008 which is much more longlasting than the nursery rhyme. Lots of modern touches with the amazing thermal properties of straw.
House 3
The newest house of the group, this is a RAL kit home with lots of sustainable features. Huge north facing windows to make the most of the passive solar heating, insulation throughout, AA worm farm waste system and more. If you ever wanted a curvy house then this is one that you need to see! Featured in the current edition of The Owner Builder magazine (http://www.theownerbuilder.com.au/articles/152%20Kit%20home%20with%20curves.pdf)
House 4
Another straw bale house on the list but this is an Owner Built home completed early 2008 but always an ongoing project. Simple lines and layout but again very thermally efficient. In slab hydronic heating powered by the wood stove keeps it toasty warm in winter, a Biolytix waste system allows for grey water to be reused on plants and many other features to contemplate.
Please email events@asustainableworld.com.au for more information and to book your tickets. Ticket prices and further dates for 2010 TBC.
